Social Media Trends to Expect in 2022
Social Media Trends to Expect in 2022
Since it first came into our lives, social media has evolved considerably. What was at first something we checked occasionally out of curiosity has now become a fundamental part of our daily lives – and has inevitably affected the way that businesses market themselves.
For 2022, there will be so much to look forward to in the realm of social media.
Without further ado, here we bring you the top 6 social media trends to expect in 2022:
1. A Boom in the Creator Economy
Worth more than a staggering $100 billion (that’s right!) we believe the Creator Economy is actually just getting started.
Many platforms have begun to invest heavily in creator marketplaces and tools, making it easy for them to connect with their audiences while collaborating with brands.
If you are considering investing in creators, you need to find those who are driving engagement, promoting relevant products and growing engaged communities. And it certainly looks as if influencers are here to stay, so if you find the right one, you’ll benefit from increasing brand awareness and reach, greater brand credibility and trust, and an enriched content strategy.
2. Big Brands on TikTok
TikTok was incredibly popular in 2021, and that won’t change in 2022. The platform has more than one billion monthly active users, and has evolved in popularity to now include major global brands such as The Washington Post, Netflix and Duolingo.
To make an impact on TikTok, brands need to let loose a little on the platform, posting unique content to appeal to the platform’s primary target audience– Gen Zers.
Posts should be:
· Authentic to reveal your brand’s true identity
· Humorous or entertaining – to increase the chances of going viral
· A spin on what’s current – if you’re struggling to come up with ideas, simply add your own unique spin to what’s currently trending, such as dances, silly shows and songs. For inspiration, simply tap the magnifying glass in the bottom menu to discover the latest trending videos and hashtags.
To make your videos even more engaging, add music and effects. There are thousands to choose from, and you can easily save the selections you love to your Favourites by clicking on the bookmark icon to the right of the song name. This will also make it easier when creating future content.
3. Rise of the LinkedIn Influencer
Who would have thought that we’d ever see those two words in the same sentence? But in 2022, we can definitely expect to see more collaborations with influencers on the platform.
The reason for this is largely attributed to the rise in working from home experienced in the past few years (thanks, corona). The platform enables businesses to increase their visibility in a more memorable way.
This year, we can expect more brands to collaborate with creators on the platform to position themselves as experts in their field, build credibility and showcase thought leadership within their broader network.
4. Social Commerce Will Continue
Brands have been using social media for a long time to sell their products. In 2022, consumers will be able to easily purchase items directly through social media platforms – and this will become the norm.
So, when designing your user experience, be sure to give some thought to implementing this feature (if you haven’t already done so) – even if it’s only for your most popular items. Trust us, this will be huge and highly advantageous to your bottom line going forward.
5. Video Content Will Remain Dominant
If you’re not currently creating videos, it’s time to add them to your content strategy! Soon, videos will dominate social media, so if you don’t jump on this bandwagon soon, you’d better start considering it. And there’s no need for your videos to be super long – the success of TikTok, Stories and Reels is testament to the success of short-form videos.
6. Instagram and Twitter Aren’t Going Anywhere
While TikTok and Snapchat have inevitably grown in popularity, Instagram and Twitter aren’t going anywhere this year. Many businesses are continuing to invest in the platforms via advertising to help them boost brand awareness, promote products and services and increase sales.
These are just some of the trends that are expected to dominate in 2022. By capitalising on these trends, you can attract more leads, build greater brand loyalty and stay ahead of the competition.
